ABB shows the factory of the future to German Chancellor and PM of Sweden

ABB CEO Ulrich Spiesshofer explained how a production cell would work in the factory of the future, where robots will collaborate with humans. They were shown how iconic, two-armed YuMi® robots together with single-armed YuMi® put together wristwatches individually with unparalleled precision, using the revolutionary versatile transport system from ABB’s newly formed Robotics & Discrete Automation business. Federal Chancellor Merkel and Swedish Prime Minister Löfven showed high interest in the factory of the future.

ABB, Ericsson join forces to accelerate wireless automation for flexible factories

ABB and Ericsson have strengthened their commitment to accelerate the industrial ecosystem for flexible wireless automation, which will enable enhanced connected services, industrial IoT and artificial intelligence technologies in the future. 
The partners signed a Memorandum of Understanding at Hannover Messe 2019, establishing their joint vision for future flexible production with automation and wireless communication. The collaboration comes during the Industry 4.0 era and 5G connectivity which allow businesses to realize increased productivity, with the help of automation and digitalization.  
The MoU confirms the partners’ agreement to continue their strong research collaboration, explore improvements in manufacturing processes and automation, and discover new business opportunities for the industrial ecosystem.

Markforged joins Siemens’ Foundation Partnership Program

Markforged, a leading industrial 3D printer manufacturer, announced today that the company is joining the Siemens foundation partnership program to collaborate on a new advanced software and machine integration for scaling industrial additive manufacturing innovation and productivity.
Industrial manufacturers creating cutting-edge products are frequently using generative design and performance analysis tools to optimize designs and accelerate the product development process. The primary result of these simulations are parts that can only be produced through additive manufacturing. Siemens’ NX software is a leading integrated solution for computer-aided design, manufacturing, engineering (CAD,CAM,CAE), and additive manufacturing. With the integration of NX and Markforged’s cloud-based software, Eiger, companies will be able to design highly innovative parts made of metals, advanced composites and carbon fiber-filled plastics, then seamlessly print those parts with Markforged’s additive manufacturing systems.

Chancellor of Germany Gets Firsthand Look at Cost-Effective Robotics with igus

Germany Chancellor Angela Merkel and Swedish Prime Minister Stefan Löfven visited the stand of igus, the Germany-based manufacturer of motion plastics, at Hannover Messe 2019.
Merkel’s main focus during her visit with igus was to see firsthand cost-effective robotics made in Germany. igus displayed a service robot arm, which could soon be drying dishes and setting the table in many homes worldwide.
igus is using Hannover Messe to start informing customers worldwide about the future of household appliances. Service robotics will play an important role in the industry.
In order to make robots affordable for every household, igus bases its gearboxes, articulated joints and connecting components on its 50 years of pioneering work in the area of motion plastics technologies. These are lubrication-free and maintenance-free, high-performance plastics developed independently by the company. The products that are created are cost-effective and, at the same time, extremely durable. 
Every year, igus makes inroads into new areas of industry. The company's most recent innovations were 3D printing for wearing parts with a service life that can be calculated online, and lubrication-free ball bearings made of high-performance plastics.
Motion plastics are increasingly becoming high-tech components. "Smart plastics” are what igus calls products that monitor themselves during use and inform customers how long they will continue to last. 

Before a product is actually used, the customer can carry out a simulation online to find the solution with the best price/service life ratio. Enormous investments in digitization are now being made to help the company to participate in the robot industry.
